2013 Nature Fund Grant

Mountain Area Preservation (MAP) has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the TTCF Nature Fund and Martis Fund, approved by the TTCF Board of Directors for our project ‘Connecting the Landscape-Martis Valley to Mount Rose’. TTCF Nature Fund Grant is a collaborative project between Martis Camp landowners, DMB/Highlands Group, Sierra Watch and MAP, which provides funding for environment/ conservation activities that encourage good stewardship in the region. The grant will help MAP’s continued efforts to preserve over 6,700 privately owned acres in the southeast watershed of Martis Valley as public open space while identifying supportable development in another location. The land that MAP is working to conserve provides a critical habitat link from Martis Valley to Mount Rose Wilderness area, a scenic place to recreate, while sustaining our watershed and supporting our tourist economy. With the support of the Nature Fund grant MAP will be able to continue a collaborative effort among local conservation organizations and stakeholders to balance new development with land conservation to preserve open space in our region.
